Muscle-relaxant injections for vulvar vestibulitis syndrome

Painful vaginal, vulvar or pelvic syndromes like vaginismus, vulvodynia and vulvar vestibulitis syndrome are having some novel treatments applied, including muscle-relaxant injections. Muscle-relaxant injections are being used medically for many neurological conditions, outside of its famous anti-wrinkle roots.

Vulvar vestibulitis, vaginismus, and vulvodynia are painful vaginal and vulvar conditions that unfortunately remain largely incurable medical mysteries.

A review of available studies reveals that out of 12 studies, muscle-relaxant injections effectively reduced pain in chronic conditions that are associated with pelvic floor muscle spasms. Women who have previously suffered incredible pain, some for their entire lives, have not had any treatment options until recently, which is great news for any sufferers. Muscle-relaxant injections can help some women regain their sex lives, and live pain-free.

For some women, the results were actually long-lasting, despite the fact these injections are not considered a long-lasting solution – it degrades in the body and disappears after a while, typically a couple of months. Some women need repeat injections, but for many, this is a small price to pay.

One particular research project wanted to test out the powers of muscle-relaxant injections in solving the pain problem by relaxing the levator ani muscle completely. Two young women were the test subjects. Within a few days after the injections of muscle-relaxant injections into the specific pelvic floor muscle, both women reported a complete resolution of the pain for several months, presumably until the muscle-relaxant injection was absorbed and became ineffective.

The evidence clearly shows us that painful vaginal, vulvar or pelvic syndromes like vaginismus, vulvodynia and vulvar vestibulitis syndrome that include pelvic muscle over-activity may be safely, quickly, and effectively treated using muscle-relaxant injections.
