  • What do dermal filler injections feel like?

Dermal filler injectionsGetting dermal filler injections is a largely painless procedure performed at our Melbourne clinic. We use anaesthetic cream or injections to ensure there is no discomfort both during and after your dermal filler injections.

If you are squeamish about needles, dermal filler injections are probably not for you. (Luckily, we have many other facial treatment options for keeping your skin beautiful.)

Dermal filler injections used to add volume – adding tiny pockets of fluid

The feeling in your face or lips after you have dermal filler injections is fullness in an area that previously didn’t feel like that. This is because a small pocket of fluid has been added under your dermal layer. Your sensory perception of your own flesh will adjust and you won’t notice after a while. The same thing happens if you put on weight, but it happens so slowly that you don’t notice.

Dermal filler injections used as skin rejuvenation – the micro-injector

These dermal filler injections are applied to your skin in very tiny amounts across your whole face, because their job is not to fill, but to stimulate collagen and elastin. This acts as a skin cell rejuvenator, rather than a filler as such. The dermal filler injections we use for facial rejuvenation are typically limited to a substance already found in your skin that promotes fibroblast production of collagen and elastin.

We use a very special micro-injector that has five very tiny needles to get greater coverage in a shorter space of time for this type of skin rejuvenation. These micro-injectors have been developed with these special dermal fillers in mind, and cause much less discomfort while providing a shorter appointment.

Do dermal filler injections hurt?

We use anaesthetic to make sure you don’t feel any discomfort at all during your dermal filler injections. Without anaesthetic cream, it would be uncomfortable (but typically not painful) as is any injection. Afterwards, you may have a small amount of swelling and there is the possibility of some bruising. Bruising is caused by tiny blood vessels (capillaries) being incidentally broken during the injection.

Lip dermal filler injections can be painful if anaesthetic is not used via injection into the mouth first.

If dermal filler injections hurt, they’re doing it wrong

We pride ourselves on offering our clients the best experience with optimal results. We provide painless dermal filler injections by using anaesthetic cream or injections to numb the area completely first, then performing the dermal filler injections.

We talk you through the procedure to ensure you are comfortable at all times – having a needle heading for your face can be a little bit daunting, but once you see the results, you can rest assured that your dermal filler injections are working well as part of a greater anti-ageing and skin beautifying plan.

At our Melbourne clinic, only dermatologists do injections

Having an experienced dermatologist doing your dermal filler injections is critical for best results. Our Melbourne clinic only allows experienced cosmetic dermatologists to do anti-wrinkle and dermal filler injections.

While we love our fantastic, highly-skilled cosmetic nurses, the training a dermatologist receives of the structure of the skin and face is far greater than a nurse’s. It’s this training and experience of the skin and face that sets our Melbourne clinic apart when it comes to dermal filler injections.
