How does Dermapen work?

Dermapen is a pen-needling method which stimulates collagen in scars or wrinkles. The 2 mm micro-needles penetrate the skin at a targeted and specific depth, causing controlled microscopic wounds and pinpoint bleeding.

The process elicits the body’s own wound-healing response, which results in fibroblast activity with collagen production. Dermapen is a great option for those of us who have no time for long recovery and who still want deeper effects for overall complexion. Together with our amazing Lycogel make-up you can have your treatment and be back at work the next day.

What aspects of the skin does Dermapen improve?

The Dermapen can be used as a stand-alone treatment or it can be used as an adjunct to other treatments.

What happens during the treatment?

  1. The face is cleansed.
  2. Treatment is delivered in four passes ie vertical, horizontal, circular and diagonal. This is to provide adequate coverage and stimulation to the areas of concern.
  3. Pin point bleeding which occurs during the treatment will be cleaned off.
  4. Lycogel gel (camouflage and concealer) can be applied to the face immediately after treatment to aid the healing process and also allow immediate return to regular activities with no downtime

How many treatments are required?

Usually, 3-4 treatments are needed but there is no limit to the number of treatments as each treatment further stimulates collagen production.

How frequently are treatments performed?

Treatments are performed at 6-8 weekly intervals.

Recovery process

There may be redness and a little bruising for 3-5 days- less than with traditional needling.

When are results noticeable?

Results will become apparent around 4 weeks post-procedure

Although uncommon, hyperpigmentation (increased pigmentation) can result after treatment. This is not usually significant and can be treated should it occur. Risk is assessed and discussed prior to treatment.

Cold sores can reactivate from any treatment that causes trauma or irritation to the skin close to the area of previous cold sores. Our doctor may recommend oral tablets for cold sore treatment on the day of the procedure or should any warning signs of cold sores develop.
