How soon is now: when will I see results from my PRP hair loss treatment?

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a well-established medical treatment for a variety of conditions, including hair loss, skin rejuvenation and anti-aging. Platelet rich plasma treatments use a component of your blood (platelets) to regenerate and rejuvenate the skin and hair follicles. It can be used in cases of hair loss to encourage and restore hair growth in the treatment area

Platelet rich plasma treatments are a revolutionary new set of procedures that can be used to treat hair loss in men and women to stimulate new hair growth by activating stem cells in the hair follicle. Whilst results can vary, the treatment can be used to great effect to stimulate new hair growth and provide significant results to successful patients.

Why does hair loss occur?

There are several forms of hair loss that can occur. These include androgenic alopecia, which is a common form of hair loss and occurs mainly due to hormonal disturbances. Diffuse alopecia can be caused by psychological changes such as stress and anxiety or nutrient deficiencies. Finally, there is alopecia areata which is an autoimmune disease in which hair is lost from some or all areas of the scalp.

How does it work?

Platelets are rich in growth factors and are used to regenerate and rejuvenate your skin. Not all PRP machines are the same – we have the latest Magellan technology, which extracts PRP up to 7 x more effectively than other machines. Our superior PRP technology gives you optimal results. The machine can be individually set to further enhance your results and tailor the treatment to reflect your needs. The treatment works by injecting stem cells and growth factors directly into an area, in order to stimulate growth and rejuvenation of cells.

Platelet rich plasma treatments begin with your blood being drawn – similar to a blood test! The blood is then placed in centrifuge machine which can separate your blood into three layers – platelet poor plasma, platelet rich plasma and red blood cells. The platelet rich plasma is then drawn up into a syringe and injected into areas of the scalp that require increased hair growth.

PRP draws on the body’s own healing capabilities by using cells, or platelets, to regenerate and rejuvenate the skin and hair follicles. This offers cells in the area a boost, allowing them to perform more effectively. The highly concentrated platelets that PRP provides can result in the growth of the hair follicles by stimulating the stem cells and other cells in the treatment area and hair follicles. The platelets themselves contain structures such as glycogen, lysosomes and alpha granules. These granules within the PRP contain both clotting and growth factors that are eventually released during the healing and repair process.

PRP hair loss benefits

One of the main benefits of platelet rich plasma treatment is that it involves injecting the scalp with your own blood, so you are not at risk of contracting any communicable disease. When used as a skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing treatment, platelet rich plasma injections can improve skin texture and elasticity as it increases collagen production and encourages cells to regenerate and replenish

How quickly will I see results?

Platelet rich plasma treatment for hair loss has been proven to be particular effective, especially when used in conjunction other therapies and remedies for hair loss or hair thinning. But, we hear you asking, ‘how soon will I see results from my platelet rich plasma treatment?’ Most people will require 2-3 treatments in order to see maximum results, spaced approximately four to six weeks apart. Results can be slow – think of it as a long term investment rather than short term. This is because the skin is both growing new cells and regenerating the old ones.

Several treatments will be necessary before the full effect, so patience is indeed a virtue. PRP is a longer term investment in your appearance, but once you see the results we know you’ll understand the process and how it has enhanced your skin’s performance.  Treatment results will last for up to two years, although this is dependent on each person’s individual skin and cell type and a range of other factors that your doctor will outline during the consultation process.
