IPL and radiofrequency safe and effective for facial rejuvenation, review says

IPL in Melbourne very effective skin treatmentsA review of facial rejuvenation treatments has found that newer technology is safer and more effective at skin rejuvenation than older technology. Intense pulsed laser (IPL) and radiofrequency (RF) were at the top of the list.

There are 10 facial rejuvenation treatments, including several lasers, that rated above chemical peels for safety, but peels came out close to being on top for effectiveness – they do the job very well, but wrong application can see chemical peels having some negative side-effects. This makes these treatments riskier.

Because the facial rejuvenation approaches are all different in this review of technology, it can be hard to compare them directly. The study reveals just how far technology has come when it comes to facial rejuvenation – it is getting safer and more effective.

The review looked at various treatments from two perspectives – safety and efficacy – using a chart to map out the results. It makes it easy to see where each technology sits on the chart, demonstrating that the cosmetic industry is moving toward improvements in skin rejuvenation constantly.

The reviewers examined over 500 studies with 15 different types of technology for facial rejuvenation. These included:

  • Radiofrequency (RF)
  • Light emitting diode (LED)
  • Pulsed dyed laser (PDL)
  • YAG, Erbium, CO2, argon, diode, plasma lasers
  • Fractional selective photo thermolysis
  • Chemical peels

Three treatments came out on top for being the most effective – RF, IPL and chemical peels. While RF and IPL scored almost at the top of all treatments for safety, chemical peels don’t have a fantastic track record in safety terms, despite being very effective.

How radiofrequency works as a skin rejuvenation tool

Radiofrequency treatments are performed using special equipment that emits specific radio waves onto and underneath the skin. These waves stimulate skin cells to bump up their production of collagen and elastin, and improve the skin’s performance.

We use radiofrequency as a facial rejuvenation tool. RF is very effective at evening out skin tone, offering some lift, and evening out texture. We use it at our Melbourne clinic for a variety of purposes, with special technology designed around the use of RF for different applications.

Chemical peels as a skin rejuvenator – Melbourne clinic

We use chemical peels at our Melbourne clinic, along with a whole range of other technologies, to improve skin texture and tone. The way chemical peels work is to physically remove the top layer of dead skin, revealing a fresh layer underneath, with each peel unique in terms of how strong it is.
