Some treatments for acne scarring are more invasive, and usually get superior results. These include:
Abrasive needling and collagen induction: Dermapen (read more about the Dermapen)
Dermapen is a pen-needling method which stimulates collagen in scars or wrinkles. The process elicits the body’s own wound-healing response, which results in fibroblast activity with collagen production.
Dermapen is a great option for those of us who have no time for long recovery and who still want deeper effects for overall complexion. Together with our amazing Lycogel make-up you can have your acne-scarring removal treatment and be back at work the next day.
Fractional technology (read more about fractional technology)
- We have the Fraxel Restore 1550 laser, which causes redness for up to five days, but does not damage the skin’s surface.
- The Duet Ablative Fractional RF delivers effective skin resurfacing, for a smoother, clearer complexion with minimal recovery time, though grids on the skin may initially be visible.
- The Secret needling radio frequency has minimal or no downtime, and can be used on all skin types. Some swelling may occur for a few days.
When are results visible?
Benefits of treatment begin to be seen after 4-8 weeks. Both the Duet and Secret, with a few treatments, give superior results, not dissimilar to ablative lasering. Both Fraxel Restore and the Fractional RF Duet and Secret improve acne scarring, skin texture, pore size and lead to improved complexion and skin tightening. They are excellent treatments for those desiring improvement to acne scarring with minimal downtime.
Is treatment with Fraxel, Duet or Secret painful?
To minimize discomfort, a local anaesthetic cream is applied one hour prior to the treatment and two Paracetamol with Codeine tablets are given. If gentle treatments are preferred, then treatments can be carried out fortnightly for 6-8 treatments. If the radio frequency energy is more pronounced, then only monthly treatments are needed for 3-4 treatments.
