How are Matrix PDO Threads different from a thread lift?

Matrix PDO Mono Threads tighten and thicken skin, whereas a thread lift procedure uses tiny barbs on the thread to hold the skin up, with the thread lift being more about giving some lift to sagging skin.

Mono threads improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by gradually stimulating collagen and elastin production within the skin over time. Not everyone needs the lift gained with a thread lift, leaving room for skin enhancement with innovative facial threading treatments. ENRICH Clinic in Melbourne offers both Matrix PDO Mono Threads and thread lifts.

Collagen production is slow; thus, all face thread treatments take several weeks to months to show the best results. Your body produces this collagen, so the process naturally takes time.

Matrix PDO Mono Threads are made a substance called polydioxanone – a flexible, durable, absorbable polymer. Matrix threads tighten skin for 6-12 months after the procedure, resulting in the thread matrix supporting the structure of the face by increasing collagen production. Then, the face thread dissolves completely over time, leaving just the supportive collagen.

The mono threads are a single, smooth, minimally-invasive PDO filament, less than the size of a single strand of hair. Mono facial threads can be inserted into the skin in a mesh-like pattern to achieve maximum skin tightening.

Some lift naturally comes with skin tightening, but the PDO threads do not significantly lift the skin, as there are no barbs that act as anchors. The barb-less nature of the mono threads suits many patients who are not concerned absolutely with sagging skin but are more focused on skin tightening, integrity and smoothing.

The PDO thread lift can improve the appearance of the cheeks by adding volume or smoothing out crepey skin. We use 40-60 individual  PDO Mono Threads for every individual treatment area or zone.  PDO threads are also a great alternative for those who don’t want or need dermal fillers.

Preparing for your facial thread treatment

There are specific steps to take before your treatment to optimise results. Well before your appointment, we’ll give you pre-treatment instructions. These will include, for example, avoiding blood-thinning medication or dealing with any active infections like acne breakouts in treatment areas. If you’re unsure about something, ask or call us after your first consultation. Our friendly clinic staff are always there to help. Your skin health is a collaboration, and well-informed patients are key to this process.

What to expect during a Matrix PDO Mono Thread treatment

PDO Threads for skin tightening

We apply a topical anaesthetic to the skin to ensure your comfort during the facial thread lift procedure. Once your skin is clean and ready for the filaments to be applied, we use a microneedle to thread the precise number of threads in the most beneficial pattern for the area. The needle transports the tail of the thread to the desired position, then withdraws, leaving the filament behind in place. Often the pattern that is followed is in a loose grid, depending on the treated area. This grid can maximise the strength of the thread procedure. This is called cross hatching.

PDO Thread treatments don’t involve any sort of incision, meaning stitches are not required. The treatment is customised and your nurse  individualises each treatment for best results.

When will I see the results of a facial thread treatment?

After your thread lift procedure is complete, you’ll start to see the impacts from around six weeks onwards. The effect will continue to improve across the coming six months as the filaments stimulate new collagen production under the skin. As the threads dissolve, the collagen remains in place, with results continuing to  develop for up to 12 months.

How long does face threading take?

There are many factors to consider when estimating the time for facial threading treatments. Still, you should expect to be in ENRICH Clinic for at least 60 minutes, treatment time plus time for consent forms and pre-treatment discussion. Ask when booking how long your particular treatment will take; each individual’s requirements impact the extent of their facial threading procedure.

What other treatments compliment PDO Mono Threads ?

Anti-wrinkle injections are a good combination treatment for PDO threads. The threads help with fine lines by producing collagen and the anti-wrinkle injections can help with the ongoing movement decreasing the chance of additional or ongoing wrinkles.

Whilst you need to wait three months until you have a laser treatment, no-downtime lasers like Genesis can be helpful and complement your PDO thread treatment. If age spots are your issue – the more downtime Fraxel is also a good combination treatment as its  gives a rejuvenation boost and clears pigment  (but wait at least 3 months post PDO thread treatment or have prior).

Dermal filler can also complement this treatment, strategically placed in areas that may need that extra boost.

You will begin to see results within six weeks of your treatment. These results will continue to improve over the next 2–6 months as new collagen is produced.

PDO Mono Threads help to create new collagen that supports your face and creates a tightening effect that lasts 6–12 months after your treatment.

The results vary depending on lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol, exercise etc. It is recommended to have another Matrix Mono Thread treatment six months after the initial treatment to maintain the tightening effects.

PDO  Mono Thread treatments may produce swelling and bruising in the area that has been treated, these side effects will subside. How long is really patient dependant but usually just over a week should see the bruising subside ( if it occurs) and swelling within 48 hours (if it occurs)

In some cases you there could be a slight “ping” or “pull” that feel like they  under the skin. They only last a second or so. These can occur off and on, for around two weeks. It is part of the threads ” settling” under you epidermis.

The PDO stands for polydioxanone, an absorbable polymer thread.

We use local anaesthetic, so the treatment is fairly painless; however, there can be some discomfort. The treatment does involve fine needles.  You may experience a firm feeling and some tenderness in the area that has been treated for a few days after the procedure.

Buttocks, stomach, thighs and arms can all be treated with PDO threads
