How does it work?
Anti-wrinkle injections use a muscle relaxant that prevents the contraction of muscles in specifics areas of the face. This prevents wrinkles and lines from forming. Anti-wrinkle treatments target dynamic and mimic lines by relaxing the muscles. It targets wrinkles such as crows feet or smile lines that appear when the patient moves their face. As the muscles beneath the skin are no longer moving, the skin stays smooth. Dermal fillers can be used to treat deeper lines or loss of volume.
How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?
Anti-wrinkle injections last approximately three to four months in most patients. With consistent ongoing treatment, results might last longer. Occasionally, patients with a faster metabolism may notice that the product begins to wear off more quickly. Once the injections begin to wear off, muscle function will return to normal and you may notice that your wrinkles are returning. The use of anti-wrinkle injections does not result in an ‘overcompensation’ of wrinkles occurring once the product wears off. Your existing wrinkles will simply become visible again.
How much do anti-wrinkle injections cost?
A consultation with one of our doctors will outline the cost of anti-wrinkle treatment. The consultation will include discussion of the treatment outcomes and your expectations. Cost is determined following an assessment of the are being treated and how much product is needed for optimal results.
Anti-wrinkle treatment has very little down time. Tiny pinprick marks may be visible at the site of the injection, but these are easily concealed if necessary and fade within 1-2 days of treatment. Following anti-wrinkle treatment, patients should not rub or touch the area excessively. Massages and facials are also not recommended immediately following treatment with anti-wrinkle injections. Strenuous exercise and lying down in the first four hours following treatment should be avoided.
Are anti-wrinkle injections safe?
It is safe to use muscle relaxants to reduce facial wrinkles. Anti-wrinkle treatment for lines in the face has been used for twenty-five years. Anti-wrinkle treatments and muscle relaxants were also used to safely treat other conditions such as eye spasms and central nervous disorders for years before that. Complications associated with anti-wrinkle procedures are rare.
