What is cellulite?

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is the normal, natural appearance of fat when it is pushed up through the vertical connective tissue that connects the muscles to the skin. You can think of this connective tissue as sort of like a netting under your skin that holds you together, so when the fat pushes up and out in a column, that’s what it looks like.

Cellulite is not harmful, but it’s never on anyone’s list of beauty must-haves.

Things you should know about cellulite

Even skinny people can have cellulite, but the more fat you have, the more cellulite can occur. Therefore losing weight will reduce some cellulite.

Women are more prone to cellulite than men, but men are not immune. Genes play a part, since genes dictate structure in our bodies. If others in your family have cellulite, you probably will too.

Cellulite is more visible the paler your skin is, since it causes shadows to fall on your skin. Darker skin, including a tan, evens out the skin colour so it is more ‘shadow’ coloured (shadows are always the same colour) than pale. Self-tanner can help so as to avoid skin damage from the sun.

Getting rid of cellulite
There are a lot of methods purported to reduce or remove cellulite. The truth is, there are only a few treatments that have any lasting impact on cellulite, and precious little you can do to change your structural makeup. Cellulite is not the devil if you understand the problem a bit more clearly, and there are things you can do to reduce cellulite’s appearance.

Some cellulite treatments include creams and spa treatments, but that doesn’t address the real problem: the fibrous bands that join your muscles and skin. The fat lives between these columnar bands, and squishes out the top when the bands are very rigid.

How we deal with cellulite

At ENRICH, we tailor your treatment using our state-of-the-art equipment and treatment strategies. These include the ThermiRF, Slimspec and Ultraformer lasers, among others. These treatments act on the root cause of the problem, by dissolving fat and breaking up the fibrous connective tissue that is responsible for the dimples, while actually improving collagen production to firm the skin. These treatments disperse excess fluids and increase blood flow, effectively removing the cause of cellulite – at least for a while longer than any other treatment.
