Dermal Treatments & Consults Melbourne

Whether we like it or not, age advances. Although we cannot stop it, with a better understanding of its process, we can intervene and slow down the visible signs. Combination dermal treatments can be a great way to slow or quietly combat the appearance of an ageing face.
Most of us recognise the visible effects of ageing, which can be heralded by:

  •   Wrinkles and lines
  •   Deep skin folds and hollows
  •   Sagging skin
  •   Drooping with a downward smile when at rest
  •   Eye bags, puffy lower cheeks
  •   Thinning of skin
  •   Brown blotches and redness – no longer cute freckles!

As we age, we undergo many changes, including:

  •   Loss of bone
  •   Loss of fat, which causes deep skin folds and hollows
  •   Movement of fat leads to baggy skin around the eyes, prominent jowls and puffy lower cheeks
  •   The muscles that pull the face up weaken, and those that pull down dominate, resulting in a downturned and droopy look
  •   The skin’s supportive network breaks down with a loss of collagen and elastin
  •    Blood vessels and pigmentation become more prominent

Dealing with the key factors involved in the aging process is necessary as a strategy for preserving and nurturing skin. This is where a consultation with our cosmetic health practitioners comes into play. They will discuss with you what dermal treatments could suit you.
At ENRICH Clinic, our cosmetic doctors, who have over 15 years of experience in the field, perform dermal treatments. Our clinic has over 10 different lasers, radio frequency devices and other dermal treatment options available.

At ENRICH, we offer treatment options that can replace volume, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and strengthen and improve the skin. A combined approach of a few procedures is often the most appropriate way to improve the appearance of the face.

What are dermal treatments made from?

Some of our dermal treatments use a naturally derived substance found in animal and human tissue. In mammals, this substance works as a transportation mechanism, taking nutrients from the blood to the skin. Skin and joints contain high levels of this substance. In clinic, this particular substance is synthetic and not derived from any animal. It is what’s known as ‘nature-identical’, meaning it is more or less exactly the same as what your body would make and behaves in the same way. Synthetically derived substances can also have a lesser chance of allergic reactions. This substance is also found in some of our topical products, such as our ENRICH Radiance Hyaluronic B5 Gel or our ENRICH Vit A, B, C Antioxidant serum.

Other dermal treatments rely on lasers to help produce collagen, plump skin, or remove pigment and age spots. Some treatments are needling-based, delivering high RF energy while needling the skin to promote collagen, help with scarring, and reduce large pores.

A consult is key to deciding which dermal treatment is best for you .

Where are dermal treatments used?

The most common areas for dermal treatments are in and around the lips, chin, cheeks, jowls, next to the mouth (above and sides), nasolabial folds (the folds that appear next to the mouth, also known as laugh lines), and the lines that appear when you frown, particularly on the forehead between the eyebrows. Some dermal treatments that are lase-based can treat the whole face

Why would I have a dermal treatment?

Plumping out the face creates a more youthful appearance since plumpness, fullness, and volume are the domain of the young and supple. Procedures can soften wrinkles or fine lines and remove creases depth. This plumping can be created in numerous ways, including inducing collagen production in the skin by causing controlled damage with lasers or adding volume to the skin in other ways. These are all skin rejuvenation techniques.

Treatments are now being used over surgical procedures since they are so effective in different ways. Technology advancements have superseded many surgical procedures, with a great example being the facelift. In the past, a facelift may have been the only option to help with facial lifting or rejuvenation, but now there are many options.

Using dermal treatments as a preventative.

Dermal treatments can be used before things get to the stage where we previously may have considered more invasive cosmetic procedures. Times have changed, and some treatments can now act as anti-aging on younger, still-supple but maturing skin as a preventative to wrinkles.

How long do treatments last?

How long your dermal treatments last depends entirely on what substance or treatment was applied and the individual patient. It also makes a difference where the dermal treatments were applied since high-action areas like the mouth compared to the forehead.

Certain dermal treatments reabsorb typically within six months to nine months because they are synthetic forms of naturally occurring substances that are gradually absorbed by the body. Lasers often require repeat treatments to maintain skin integrity. Skin needling too can take up to twoeekes to full y heal. Age and skin health is also a factor in how long a treatment may last,

How long does it take to recover?

In general, you don’t need to take any time off work for most treatments. However, some of the ablative lasers have downtime of up to 14 days, so some time off work may be required to give you and your skin time to feel comfortable and be able to wear makeup.
It is also advised:

  • Not to exercise for 48 – 72 hours
  • not touch the injected area for 24 – 48 hours.
  • not apply makeup on the injected area for 24 – 48 hours.
  • drink plenty of water for hydration
  • If there seems to be anything unusual, please call our clinic for advice.

Can there be any complications with dermal treatments?

Yes, as in any  procedure, there is always a risk, and these risks are often very patient-dependent as each person is unique, and their reactions or prior treatments are very specific to them. It’s important to weigh up the pros and cons of any cosmetic treatment. Any reactionary possibilities should be discussed with your doctor prior to treatment.

  •   Damage to the skin that results in a wound and possible scarring
  •   Infection at the  site
  •   Skin necrosis (ulceration or loss of skin from disruption of blood flow)

At ENRICH Clinic, our aesthetic doctors have been performing dermal treatments for over 15 years. Experience is everything.  At ENRICH Clinic, treatments are only given if they are warranted. Rejuvenating the face throughout your skin journey should be part of a solid face-care plan, revised as your skin changes and ages.

Bio- remodelling

If you’re on a quest for a non-surgical treatment to improve the appearance of your skin, you may have heard of Bio-remodelling treatments. These treatments are also known by their registered product name, but in Australia, the TGA guidelines don’t allow us to advertise them, which is similar to how we can’t name the registered product names of certain wrinkle-resolving treatments.

Bio-remodelling offers a non-surgical, non-invasive approach to improving skin texture, elasticity, hydration and overall appearance. Think of Bio-remodelling as a “glow giver”. Rather than totally remodelling or changing the shape of your face, this treatment is more of an overall hydration.

Bio-remodelling is a gentle, regenerative treatment, not comparable to skin treatments that add volume/contour to the face or relax facial muscles, respectively.

What dermal  treatments work well together?

Wrinkle-resolving treatments are an obvious partner to other dermal treatments. Combining these treatments will give you a dual effect and refresh your face within a few days to a week. Best of all, in most cases, no one will really know what you have had done, just that you look ” refreshed” and your skin has improved.

Bio-remodelling can also be a combination option. Bio-remodelling will help refresh and hydrate the skin. These treatments need to be completed two weeks apart,

Lasers are a great option for combination treatments. Whether it’s removing age spots, building collagen, or cleaning or removing dead skin, any of the no-downtime or downtime lasers can help with and combine well with other dermal treatments focused on more hydrating and plumping. Talk to one of our experienced cosmetic doctors about what might work for you.

Treatment plans – we can’t emphasise this enough.

Building your own skin treatment plan is key to your skin health. Working out what you would like treated and what needs to be treated is important too. You may have age spots or a suspicious spot that needs to be at the top of the treatment list, and then future skincare needs to follow. Building a treatment plan that can be modified as time goes on and as your skin changes can be very beneficial.

You service your car, go to the dentist regularly, and schedule regular appointments with the hairdresser – why not look after the biggest organ in your body the same way?  Treatment plans can help you plan your time and budget and look after your skin health, contributing to your overall well-being.

Your doctor will work with you, and together, you can decide what type of dermal treatment is right for you, considering your bone structure, face shape, skin type, goals, and budget.

We are very experienced, highly-trained practitioners performing all our skin treatments. You are in good hands.

A note on naming names and descriptions

In Australia, we are unable to name substances used in cosmetic procedures, as they are prescription-only medicines—“Most cosmetic injectables contain substances that are in Schedule 4  and cannot be advertised to the public” (Source TGA website). Please be aware that recently, the TGA updated this regulation to include not using certain commonly understood terminology when referring to treatments.

We can discuss and name these products in a consultation, and depending on the outcome of the consult, the doctor may or may not prescribe them to the patient as part of their treatment plan.

Contact us for a personal consultation to discuss your treatment needs with one of our highly-trained, experienced cosmetic doctors.
