MiraDry Sweat Treatment Melbourne

The newest available treatment for reducing under-arm sweating is now available at ENRICH Clinic!

MiraDry is a non-invasive treatment that safely and permanently reduces under-arm sweat, hair and odour. It is a quick, non-surgical solution that is performed under a local anaesthetic using microwave technology. Miradry is the only current treatment available that treats both excessive sweating and odour!

MiraDry is a suitable treatment for those patients:

  • Suffering from hyperhidrosis
  • Seeking to permanently reduce under-arm sweat and odour
  • Wanting a long-term alternative to anti-wrinkle injections for hyperhidrosis
  • Hoping to be able to wear lighter coloured clothing and reduce stains and wet patches
  • Looking for safe and effective treatment for hyperhidrosis with minimal downtime

HOW IT WORKS

The miraDry uses microwave energy that targets the sweat and odour glands under the arms. The energy is directed at these glands in the skin in the under-arm area. Microwave energy creates a controlled heating process called thermolysis which destroys the glands. The surface of the skin remains cool and comfortable.  Once these glands are destroyed they do not grow back, resulting in a safe and permanent reduction of under-arm sweating and odour.

Studies have shown an average reduction of 82% in under-arm sweating in most patients after one treatment. The sweat glands in the under-arms account for just 2% of the body’s total sweat glands. This means that undergoing miraDry treatment will not affect your body’s overall ability to regulate temperature via sweating.

THE TREATMENT

The armpits are cleansed with an antiseptic solution and are then injected with a combination of local anaesthetic and adrenaline to prevent bleeding from the injections and increase the duration of the numbness. This is the most uncomfortable part of the procedure, as once these injections are administered the area is numb and the patient feels very little. A template is drawn onto the skin to assist in the placement of the handpiece during treatment.

The treatment is then administered to the under-arm area using the handpiece. The skin is suctioned close to the handpiece with each application, helping to distribute the microwave energy evenly across the treatment area. The top layers of the skin remain cool and comfortable, with the hot microwave energy penetrating the deeper layers of the skin to the sweat and odour glands.

Once treatment is complete, the majority of patients will be able to return to normal activities immediately. High intensity exercise is not recommended in the first few days after treatment.

WHY MIRADRY?

The miraDry is the only non-invasive technology to provide long lasting results without the use of injections, chemicals or ongoing surgery. It sees a 90% decrease in under-arm sweat in 90% of patients. Many patients require only one treatment, although in some cases a second or third treatment will be necessary. The treatment has lasting effectiveness and a proven safety record with minimal downtime for the patient.

The treatment also addresses the odour associated with excess sweating by targeting the glands that cause odour. Other under-arm sweating treatments, such as the use of anti-wrinkle injections, chemicals or surgical options do not have this added benefit.

Benefits include:

  • Reduction of underarm sweating and under-arm hair
  • No more than three treatments needed for permanent results
  • Immediate and lasting results
  • Minimal downtime

A consultation with a doctor is required prior to this procedure to assess your suitability for the treatment. The fee for this consultation is $110.

Most patients describe the procedure as relatively painless with little to no downtime. Local anesthesia is administered to the underarms prior to the treatment for patient comfort.

Most patients return to regular activity (like returning to work) immediately. It is advised to refrain from exercise for a week or so post treatment. You may experience swelling, numbness, bruising, and sensitivity in the underarm area for several days after treatment.

An appointment will generally last a couple of hours in order to administer the local anesthesia and mark up the area for treatment. The actual procedure takes approximately one hour.

Some localized soreness or swelling will occur, and typically clear within a few weeks. Some patients have short-term altered sensation in the skin of their underarms or upper arms, which gradually disappears.

Once the miraDry treatment eliminates the sweat and odor glands, they’re gone for good.

The treatment is clinically proven to have an average of 82% sweat reduction and 89% odor reduction. However, as with any aesthetic treatment, patient results and experiences may vary.

You can see results in as little as one treatment. However, as with any aesthetic treatment,  results can vary patient to patient and a second treatment may be required in the future.

Miradry can only be used in the armpit region for both male and female patients. There are other hyperhidrosis treatments suitable for other body areas. Read about them here
