Targeted Fat Removal & Fat Scraping

Despite a healthy diet, exercise and lifestyle habits, there may still be stubborn areas of fat that refuse to budge. Whilst overall weight can only be reduced through diet and exercise, the location of fat storage is determined by your genes and gender.

At ENRICH, we offer a range of treatment options to reduce unwanted fat that works with your natural body shape. Because we have a range of the latest technologies for targeted liposuction & fat scraping, we are able to tailor a treatment plan unique to the individual situation and needs.

How exercise & diet factors into fat removal.

It’s impossible to determine in advance where you would like your body to release stored fat from – your body has its own plan, and just because you exercise a certain muscle group doesn’t mean that fat will automatically be taken from that area. It doesn’t work like that.

Hormones and genetics determine where your body fat is stored. When you exercise (or require energy release from stored calories because you are on a calorie-controlled diet), your body uses its fat stores reasonably evenly across your body. Our hormones (i.e. gender or sex) largely determine where fat is taken from and how easy it is to get that release of fat.

How our hormones affect our fat distribution

Oestrogen and fat have an affinity. The more fat you have, typically, the more oestrogen you have because fat cells convert testosterone to oestrogen. targwted body sculpting upper thigh and tummyIt is also because the more oestrogen you have, the more alpha-2 receptors you have, in particular around the thighs and buttocks. These alpha-2 receptors take nine times as much stimulation to release their fat than beta-2 receptors. Our bodies are designed like this on purpose.
Women need both fat stores and oestrogen for fertility, with a minimum amount of fat required for ovulation to take place (about 17 per cent body fat) and thus a proper menstrual cycle to occur. The human body devised a method for ensuring that no matter how much running or starving we did, we’d hopefully still have enough fat to stay fertile.

If a woman is too skinny, it can affect their menstrual cycle, and often skinny teenage girls start menstruating later than everyone else, which is nature’s way of saying they may not  have enough fat to sustain a pregnancy. Clever, huh!

This is when surgical and non-surgical targeted fat removal  can be used to override our natural cellular tendencies and remove stubborn fat that won’t go away.

Choosing the right targeted  treatment for you

These days there are a number of targetted fat removal techniques available, including liposuction, fat-dissolving injections, and Trusculpt, which uses radiofrequency to both destroy fat cells and tighten tissue. There are other options in the market but these are the ones we focus on. “Researching” your options is a good thing as you should understand the impact any of these treatments could have on you as an individual.  Discuss your treatment options with your doctor and establish what treatment is best for you and your individual needs.

Post-pregnancy spot-fat reduction of fat pockets

Pregnancy can change the hormonal landscape under which our bodies operate, causing fat to collect and stick around in places it didn’t use to prior to pregnancy. This is normal, and while not dangerous, it can be an unappealing adjunct to becoming a parent. Add to this the loss of breast fat tissue, and women’s bodies can change significantly after a full-term pregnancy, even just due to the hormonal changes, let alone the physical tax.

Targetted fat removal can be applied to several smaller areas or larger areas to smooth out body contours.

Post-weight-loss fatty deposit  & targeted fat removal.

Weight loss is a healthy manoeuvre, but it can leave lumps and bumps that won’t budge once you are at your goal weight. Exercise can only do so much, and the body of our dreams may elude us despite all efforts to the contrary.

Liposuction and other body areas

Liposuction is the obvious technique for spot-fat reduction . targeted body sculpting inner thigh Other options have limitations but might be more appropriate for someone unable to undergo liposuction surgery, which is invasive and requires the ability to heal well and for the body to recover.

Liposuction can be performed on other areas of the body that may not be traditionally thought of such as arms, calves and knees.

Arm liposuction is also an option.  Again this is another case where there is a smaller amount of fatty tissue and a liposuction cannula can be used to remove the fat in a targeted way. As cannulas are only 1.5mm in size, this can be helpful when performing liposuction in a small area.

How liposuction works as a targetted fat removal method.

Liposuction is a fat-reduction technique that plots out a section of fat cells to remove from the body to create a renewed contour or shape. The tumescent technique was developed in the mid-1980s by Dr Jeffery Klein. His “Tumescent Technique” allowed patients to have liposuction performed totally by local anesthesia using much smaller cannulas. Smaller cannulas result in more precision fat removal.

How does Tumescent Liposuction work?

A special liquid is injected into the area to numb it and quell bleeding, then tiny tubes (cannulas) are used to suction the fat out in a systematic way to achieve the best, smoothest results. This is done under a local anaesthetic, so you are awake during the procedure. We often prescribe a relaxant pre-surgery as well.

An experienced liposuction practitioner is key.  Their experience and technique will help you achieve smooth, proportioned results –  the most important outcome.

Targeted targetted fat removal can be done using liposuction on just about any part of the body where fat accumulates – thighs, ankles, knees, back, abdomen, flanks, tummy, arms, or chin/neck. Recovery is usually a few weeks rather than days with a non-surgical option.  Swelling results from this type of surgery, and it takes some time to resolve naturally.

The benefits of non-surgical targeted body contouring

Surgery is invasive and there is a period of recovery time as the tissue heals. Every surgery comes with a set of risks that are determined to be worthwhile at the outset by both you and your practitioner.  These risks can be mitigated by using less invasive techniques to damage fat cells to the point that they are reabsorbed back into the body as waste, and over a few months, the fat ‘melts’ away.

This might seem like a fat-melting utopia, but it comes with its own risks – one of the main ones being uneven or unexpected results. Non-surgical spot-fat treatments do not require anaesthesia for the most part, and many of them can be quite comfortable. They also remove less fat than a liposuction procedure, so you need to manage all your expectations.

TruSculpt ID for targeting fat reduction

At ENRICH, we have recently introduced the  TruSculpt Id to our range of devices. This device is used for non-invasive body contouring and can help with a reduction of fat in particular areas of up to 18-24%.

The device uses innovative monopolar radiofrequency (RF) technology to target fat selectively and therapeutically heat it until fat cells are slowly removed and excreted through the body naturally. Penetrating deep to treat the entire fat layer from skin to muscle, Trusculpt iD is clinically proven for permanent fat cell destruction.

Results appear after 12 weeks, so it’s not an instantaneous result. It is, however, a comfortable treatment, total visit time 45mins- 1 hour. Trusculpt can help to reduce fat in the arms, belly & thighs.

Note: Trusculpt can not be used for breast reduction

Fat-dissolving injections for targeted fat removal

Fat-dissolving injections contain a substance that breaks down fat cells so the body can reabsorb them in much the same way the RF or heating fat treatments aim for. This is usually done in very small areas, such as the neck. It is a reasonably quick treatment, but there is some recovery downtime – again because of the swelling. So people can react more than others.

*With all surgeries or procedures, there are risks. Consult your physician (GP) before undertaking any surgical or cosmetic procedure. Please read the consent forms carefully and be informed about every aspect of your treatment. Surgeries such as liposuction have a mandatory seven-day cooling-off period to give patients adequate time to be sure of their surgery choice. Results may also vary from person to person due to many factors, including the individual’s genetics, diet and exercise. Before and after photos are only relevant to the patient in the photo and do not necessarily reflect the results other patients may experience. Ask questions.
