melasma treatment

Melasma is a facial pigmentation that can cause brown, blotchy patches of discoloured skin to appear on the face. It is a common skin condition that causes an increase in pigmentation on the face. It is most common in women, particularly during pregnancy. Contact ENRICH Clinic to secure an appointment with one of our skilled team members.

What causes melasma?

Melasma can be caused by a number of factors, not just pregnancy. Melasma is the result of overstimulation to the melanin producing cells, resulting in excess pigment. Factors that can increase the production of melanin in the body’s cells include a genetic predisposition, sun exposure, hormonal changes, medication, contraception and hypothyroidism.

Melasma tends to appear across the forehead, cheeks and upper lip, but may also appear in single spots or patches.
