There are many variations on the nonsurgical facelift we now know as the thread lift (also known as the suture lift), some using non-absorbable thread that physically lifts the skin and can be adjusted over time, to the biodegradable threads that cause collagen production and must be repeated more often.
The rise of variations on the classic thread lift
In a new twist, a British doctor has launched his own 30-minute dissolvable thread lift, promising to provide the face with subtle lift that lasts for a cool £1,200. The treatment, called the Silhouette Soft, uses a special coned thread made from completely biodegradable, bio-safe polylactic acid. This thread, once in place, stimulates natural collagen production in the skin, providing ongoing lift as the thread slowly dissolves.
Dr Jean-Louis Sebagh – Cindy Crawford’s cosmetic dermatologist and business partner – designed the Silhouette Soft himself and offers it in his Paris and London clinics. Dr Sebagh says his treatment is a ‘technological innovation offering women what no treatment has ever provided in such a simple way: a redefined face, restored volume and reduced wrinkles by means of a 30-minute treatment at their doctor’s, for a result lasting up to 18 months’.
The procedure entails local anaesthetic injections, after which the thread is laced under the skin via one single entry point at strategic points on the face. The thread’s presence causes the facial skin cells to produce collagen as a natural response (like all thread lifts), after which the skin tightening incrementally appears over time. The effect is both immediate and improves over time, offering greater volume, less sagginess, and greater definition of important facial elements like the jawline and cheekbones.
